Using the Adapter for Salesforce.com from SAP Data Services

We have been trying to connect to SF through the Data Services standard SF adapter and have been getting a generic error message. We have tried multiple options that we found on SDN. To start with, we followed the steps given in this link -

We have given the standard Web service end point(21.0). I was able to connect to the sandbox(we have been trying to connect to the sandbox from DS) externally from the browser and I was able to connect successfully.

We left the 'Access Server Host' and 'Access Server Port' intentionally and did not make changes to the 'Additional Java Launcher Options' as per the below link -

We are in DS 4.2 SP5. We have also referenced the below note but not an option -

Has someone encountered this issue while connecting to SF for the first time and what steps were taken to resolve this issue?
